The
Isaiah 61
Project

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion--to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.

Who We Are

The Isaiah 61 Project

We greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ—whose life and mission call us to bind up the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to the captives, and seek justice for the oppressed. We are The Isaiah 61 Project, a newly formed, non-denominational and non-partisan collective of African American clergy committed to these singular causes: securing the release of wrongfully convicted individuals, overly penalized individuals, and standing with families devastated by unjust killings at the hands of law enforcement.Too many of our brothers and sisters are imprisoned not because of guilt but because of systemic injustice, misconduct, and indifference. Families have been torn apart, dreams shattered and lives stolen. As spiritual leaders, we are stepping into the gap—not only with prayer and compassion but with investigation, collaboration, and bold action. Our mission is clear: to expose the corruption and lies that have led to wrongful convictions, support hurting families, and restore hope and justice to our communities. We invite you to join us in this holy work. Whether you are a faith leader, legal expert, activist, or simply a neighbor who cares, there is a role for you in this movement, for we do not see ourselves as saviors but co-laborers with anyone standing for justice.Let us rise together—for truth, for love, for justice. In solidarity and hope,

Political Policy Statement

The Isaiah 61 Project

The Isaiah 61 Project is a NON-DENOMINATIONAL, NON-PARTISAN organization of African American clergy committed to seeking justice for the wrongfully accused and/or convicted, while also supporting families whose loved ones were harmed by police violence. As a collective rooted in faith, truth, and liberation, we believe it is important to clarify our position on political engagement and endorsement.WE DO NOT ENDORSE POLITICAL CANDIDATES
The Isaiah 61 Project DOES NOT ENDORSE political candidates at any level--local, state, or national.
While our work intersects deeply with systems of power, law, and governance and may, therefore, be seen as "political," WE ARE NOT A POLITICAL-ENDORSING ORGANIZATION.
WE AFFIRM THAT:
* Individual members of The Isaiah 61 Project are free to express their own views and support candidates as private citizens.
* The organization as a whole will not participate in endorsing, campaigning, or fundraising for any political candidate or party.
*WE BELIEVE IN POLITICAL ACCOUNTABILITY
While we do not endorse candidates, we will boldly critique them. Inspired by the prophetic tradition and the ministry of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, we believe in holding power accountable.
* THE ISAIAH 61 PROJECT RESERVES THE RIGHT TO:
1. Critically assess the "public safety record" of any political candidate or seated politician, particularly as it relates to policing, incarceration, community protection, and justice system reform.
2. Raise questions about decisions to bring--or not bring--charges against law enforcement officers accused of harming community members.
3. Confront silence, inaction, or complicity on issues of systemic injustice and public harm.
Our Political Posture: PROPHETIC, NOT PARTISAN.
We Follow the example of Christ, whose ministry was undeniably political--not because He campaigned for Caesar, but because He disrupted unjust systems, Spoke truth to power, and centered the marginalized.
Therefore, we remain:
* POLITICALLY AWARE, BUT NOT PARTISAN.
* SPIRITUALLY GROUNDED, BUT SOCIALLY ACTIVE
*JUSTICE-FOCUSED, BUT NON-ENDORSING.
IN SUMMARY:
We exist to be a spiritual and moral force, not a political machine.
We seek truth, accountability, and transformation--not popularity or power.
In Solidarity and Faith,
The Leadership of The Isaiah 61 Project.
